  • Island Gas CNG Ltd. E&I Design: Presently working on the electrical design for a high pressure natural gas load out and trucking facility. This involves design of power and grounding system as well as lightning protection systems and the interconnection of vendor supplied compressors, control panels, dryers, etc.

  •  Lake Utopia Paper Hog Fuel Boiler E&I Design: Completed the design for a Hog Fuel Boiler electrical and instrumentation design for a 110000#/hour steam plant.  The project involve power system design, emergency generator selection, switchgear design and selection, MCC design and selection, building services (fire alarm receptacles, lighting, CCTV.) instrumentation design and wiring, construction observation and monitoring and commissioning.

  • Lake Utopia Paper Primary Clarifier Electrical Upgrade: Completed electrical and instrumentation design for the modernization of the primary clarifier and anaerobic plant.  This consisted of overhead line design, power system design,  underground duct bank, motor control, tray design, building services, instrument selection, Foxboro DCS wiring design, preparation of cost estimates, commissioning assistance, etc.  

  • CANAPORT LNG – E&I Project Manager: Provided project management services to Gardner Electric Ltd. for the major electrical works at the Canaport LNG Site. Responsible for 230+/- people with seven direct reports (superintendent, safety officer, QA, purchasing, general foreman). Worked 300000+ hours, the first 260000+/- with no lost time accident. Provided services such as productivity monitoring, schedule updating and monitoring, prepared weekly progress reports and monthly cost reports and projections, provided engineer review services on all construction drawing packages identifying errors, materials, etc., provided quantity takeoff services. Managed construction work on the power and instrumentation systems at the Jetty, Ship Unloaders, Pipe Rack Instrumentation, Tank 1 and 2 Electrical completion, SCV process instrumentation, power, lighting and heat tracing, HP area process instrumentation, power, lighting and heat tracing, Boil off Gas (BOG) process instrumentation, power, lighting and heat tracing, site lightning protection, site grounding, main 69kV power system and substations, fit up of MCC room, fit up of DCS room, fit up of IT room, fit up of the site flare, etc. Managed work though summer, fall, winter and spring construction seasons.   • Lake Utopia Paper Sludge Dewatering: Completed electrical and instrumentation design for the addition of a sludge dewatering plant. This consisted of building grounding, underground duct bank, motor control, tray design, building services, instrument selection, Foxboro DCS wiring design, preparation of cost estimates, commissioning assistance, etc.

  • Atlantic Wallboard – Senior Design Engineer: Prepared cost estimates, detailed electrical design, equipment specifications, construction scope and schedules for the implementation of the 69kV to 12.47kV/4160V/600V power system, lighting systems, communications, fire alarm, emergency lighting, grounding and cable tray systems required for the operation of a 240 ft/minute gypsum board plant.   • Lake Utopia Paper GE Drive Replacement: Contracted to Lake Utopia Paper Ltd. for the electrical design to replace the DC drive on No. 1 Paper Machine with a new GE Drive. Project involved cost estimates, power system transformer selection and upgrade, cable bus design, cable tray design, motor cable design, control cable design, load tension cell wiring design, commissioning assistance, etc.

  • Irving Paper- E&I Construction Manager: Contracted to Irving Paper Limited to prepare electrical and instrumentation contracts and provide construction management for a paper machine rebuild which consisted of a new press, rebuilt dryer and a twin on-line calender stack with re-moisturizing equipment. Project E&I value $20M CDN. 

  • Lake Utopia Paper Twin Flow Refiners: Completed electrical and instrumentation design for the addition of twin flow refiners. This consisted of motor control, tray design, building services, instrument selection, Foxboro DCS wiring design, etc. Project E&I value $350K CDN. 

  • Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. No. 1 PM Drive Replacement: Contracted to Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. for the electrical design to replace the DC drive on No. 1 Pulp Machine with a new GE Drive. Project involved cost estimates,  cable tray design, motor cable design, control cable design, load tension cell wiring design, etc. Project E&I value $1M CDN. 

  • Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. New Lime Kiln: Prepared cost estimates, construction scope, schedules and detailed electrical and instrumentation design for the implementation of the power, building services, motor control,  HVAC controls, DCS marshalling and IO design, heat tracing, SAMA drawing development and instrumentation required for the operation of a 300 ton/hour Lime Kiln. Project E&I value $3.5M CDN. 

  • St. George Pulp and Paper Ltd. E&I Construction Supervisor: Contacted to supervise the construction of the electrical system for a new 15MW hydroelectric plant. This plant electrical system was completed in 9 weeks and turned over for commissioning. Also completed the engineering and provided commissioning assistance required to make the plant operational. Project E&I value $3M CDN. 

  • Irving Tissue Company TM1 Rebuild E&I Field Engineer: Contracted to provide field engineering and commissioning assistance for the completion of power systems, cable bus design, motor control design, instrument wiring design for the rebuild of No. 1 Tissue Machine. Project E&I value $5M CDN. 

  • Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. Sub 41/43Power Equipment Replacement: Contracted to design the power system upgrade for the pulp machine room. This consisted of new 2500kVA transformers, 4000A cable buses, 4000A 600V AC switchboards, transformer foundation design, cable tray design, and grounding design. Project E&I value $2M CDN. 

  • Lake Utopia Paper 5kV Power Equipment Replacement: Contracted to design the power system upgrade fro the replacement of all 5kV breakers, 5kV cable bus, recabling of 2000kVA transformers. This work was completed in a 16 hour shutdown. Project E&I value $1.8M CDN.

  • Lake Utopia Unit Sub 2 Replacement: Contracted to provide a design for the replacement of obsolete 600VAC MCC’s. This design provided for the design of a new electrical room,  new 600VAC transformer and switchboard, new MCC’s, cable schedules for the recabling of existing motors, new cable tray system, new DCS IO cabinets for connection of DCS to MCC’s, etc. This project was done during 12 hour maintenance shutdowns. Project E&I value $2.5M CDN.

  • Lake Utopia Paper Pulp Mill Sub Upgrade: Contracted to provide a design for the replacement of obsolete 600VAC MCC’s. This design provided for the design of a new electrical room,  new 600VAC transformer and switchboard, new MCC’s, cable schedules for the recabling of existing motors, new cable tray system, new DCS IO cabinets for connection of DCS to MCC’s, etc. Provided commissioning assistance during each of the shutdowns. This project was done during 12 hour maintenance shutdowns. Project E&I value $1.5M CDN.

  • Honeywell Canada: Design Services for Marshalling System for a Petrochemical Plant: Contracted to Honeywell to provide a marshalling system design, cable tray layouts, wiring diagrams for typical cabling, interconnecting cabling for field to DCS I/O, bill of materials for cable trays and pre-cut cables, detail drawing for marshaling panels, etc. for each of three Satellite Buildings.
  • Lake Utopia Paper: Provided engineering design services for the addition of a new sub station complete with building services, fire alarm, 3000 amp 5KV switch gear, 2600 amp cable bus, cable tray design, 5 KV power feeder design, 5KV soft starts, power factor correction capacitors, installation specifications and quotation documents.
  • Lake Utopia Paper: Prepare a five-year plan for the upgrade of the Mill electrical system over the next five years.
  • Irving Pulping Paper Ltd.: Provided engineering design for the relocation of Sub 50D. Engineering included the wiring diagrams for cabling, schematics, loop drawings, cable tray design, bill of materials for cable trays, installation specifications and quotation documents.
  • Irving Pulping Paper Ltd.: Provided engineering design for the upgrade of recovery boiler controls from Honeywell TDC 2000 to Honeywell TPS 3000. Engineering included the marshalling system design, cable tray layouts, wiring diagrams for cabling, interconnecting cabling for field to DCS I/O, loop drawings, schematic drawings, bill of materials for cable trays and precut cables, detail drawings for marshaling panels and IO cabinets, installation specifications and quotation documents.
  • Irving Pulping Paper Ltd.: Provided engineering design for the plant power factor improvement. 7000 KVAR of power factor correction capacitors were installed on the 600 volt and 2300 volt systems installation specifications and quotation documents.
  • Irving Pulping Paper Ltd.: Provided engineering design for the implementation of Honeywell batch digester control system. Engineering included the marshalling system design, cable tray layouts, wiring diagrams for cabling, interconnecting cabling for field to DCS I/O, loop drawings, schematic drawings, bill of materials for cable trays and precut cables, detail drawings for marshaling panels and IO cabinets, installation specifications quotation documents, etc.
  • Honeywell Canada: Design Services for Marshalling System for the Irving Oil Refinery: Provided contract engineering and site construction supervision services to Honeywell for the marshalling system design, cable tray layouts, wiring, interconnecting cabling design for field to DCS I/O, bill of materials for cable trays and precut cables, detail drawing for marshaling panels, etc. for the integration of Honeywell TPS 3000 equipment in the four Satellite Buildings.
  • Honeywell Canada: Design Services for Marshalling System for the Irving Oil Refinery: Provided contract engineering and site construction supervision services to Honeywell for the marshalling system design, cable tray layouts, wiring, interconnecting cabling design for field to DCS I/O, bill of materials for cable trays and precut cables, detail drawing for marshaling panels, etc. for the integration of Honeywell TPS 3000 equipment in the four Satellite Buildings.
  • Irving Paper Ltd. – Winder and Dryer Pulper Controls: Provided engineering for the design of the controls for a Winder and Dryer Pulper. The control design involved schematics, wiring diagrams, loop drawings and preparation of a bid package for the Owner. Prepared the bid evaluations and assisted in the selection of the Contractor. Also, acted as the Field Construction Engineer for the installation of the controls system for the Owner. 
  • Honeywell Canada - Front End Loading: Provided engineering services to assist in preparing a basic engineering report for the supply and installation of a Honeywell TPS DCS for a large petrochemical facility in eastern Canada. Scope of services included estimating labour and materials for installing a marshalling system for field cabling and DCS I/O, prepared philosophy wiring diagrams to reflect the clients requirements for wiring, preparing equipment and cable tray layouts for several DCS rack rooms. 
  • Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. – No. 3 Power Boiler Upgrade: Field Construction Engineer for this project. Responsibilities included balance of engineering design to complete the cutover of controls from a Honeywell TDC 2000 to a Honeywell TDC 3000 system. Was responsible for supervising and directing contractors, preparing estimates for contractor changes and assisting/coordinating commissioning plant start-up.
  • Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc., Brunswick Mining Division – Paste Backfill Plant: The design for this project was by H.A. Simons, Vancouver B.C. Prepared a design check against the H.A. Simons design and prepared a Contractor grade estimate for the main power and control contract. 
  • Irving Pulp and Paper Ltd. – Reverse Osmosis Project: Field Construction Engineer for this project. The design for this project was by Neill and Gunter Ltd. Responsibilities includes the review of NGL design, review of bid packages, supervision and direction of contractors, preparation of budget estimates, preparing detail design for electrical and instrumentation additions to be done on site during construction and plant start-up.
  • Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc., Heath Steele Division – Waste Water Treatment Plant Field Construction Engineer for this project. The design for this project was by H.A. Simons, Vancouver B.C. Responsibilities included the review of H.A. Simons Design, review of bid packages, supervision and direction of contractors, preparation of budget estimates, preparing detail design for electrical and instrumentation additions done on site during construction and plant start-up.

  • Irving Pulp and Paper - Lime Kiln Automation Project: Design engineer for the preparation of control logic descriptions, preparation of instrument and power cable schedules, preparation of process piping and instrument diagrams and the preparation of the construction specifications and tender documents. Responsible for supervising the electrical contractor, coordinating the field installation with other disciplines, verifying all control and power wiring, commissioning all equipment for proper operation, recording as built changes and filing all documentation.
  • Irving Pulp and Paper - Bleach Plant Automation Project: Design Engineer for the specifying and purchasing of new MCC's, instruments, marshalling cabinets, junction boxes, PLC cabinets and DCS cabinets. The design scope also involved the preparation of control logic, preparation of instrument and power cable schedules, preparation of electrical tray and equipment location drawings, preparation of instrument location and loop drawings, preparation of process instrument diagrams and the preparation of the construction specifications and tender documents. Provided field engineering assistance, contractor supervision and project management in the area of scheduling and cost control/estimating.
  • Irving Pulp and Paper - UPS Upgrade: Design engineer for the specifying UPS hardware, detailing the operation philosophy, preparing bid documents and construction drawings, choosing suppliers, requisitioning equipment and supervising the installation contractor.
  • Irving Pulp and Paper - Environmental Improvement Project: Field Construction Engineer for this project. The design for this project was by Brown and Root, Texas, USA. Responsibilities included the preparation of bid packages, supervision and direction of contractors, dispute resolution, preparation of budget estimates, preparing detail design for electrical and instrumentation additions done on site during construction and plant start-up.
  • Irving Pulp and Paper - Recovery 600 Volt Sub Station Rebuild: Design Engineer responsible for preparing detailed design for the rebuild of a MCC room. Within the scope of this project, ten (10) existing MCC’s were replaced with the plant in operation. The scope involved detailing the construction sequence, development of control logic for the PLC/DCS, specifying and ordering material, preparing contract bid packages, awarding contracts, supervising contractors and commissioning and placing in operation the new electrical equipment and implementing the control strategy.
January 1990 to March 1994 Gardner Electric Ltd.
  • From February 1992 to October 1993 assigned to the Belledune Generating Station Project as project manager for the cabling contract awarded to Gardner Electric Ltd. by NB Power. This contract grossed nearly $20 million dollars and consumed 300,000 plus man-hours. This was accomplished with no labour disturbances, an excellent relationship with the owner and productivity above the normal level expected for a project of that magnitude and scope. This project encompassed installation of the DCS system, equipment control panels, all control cabling and off-tray support for the plant, fire alarm system, telephone system, public address system, fibre optic cabling and the equipment grounding system. 
  • In November 1991, promoted to the position of Industrial Manager. Responsibilities included the management of all industrial projects, development and implementation of cost control methods, change order preparation, estimating, claims preparation and implementation of continuous improvement systems. 
  • Employed as a full time Electrical Engineer/Estimator with Gardner Industrial Division. Responsibilities included estimating, site co-ordination, scheduling and on site engineering when required. Responsible for preparing electrical designs for design - build projects. Responsible for preparation and management of construction claims. 
June 9, 1986 – January, 1990 Brunswick Mining Corp. Ltd
  • Employed as a full time Electrical Engineer with the Plant Engineering Group. 
  • Responsibilities included power system design, control system design utilizing Allen Bradley PLC's and relay logic, technical assistance to the maintenance group, supervision of engineering students, project management, material procurement, supervision of construction, commissioning and supervision of consulting engineering firms.
  • Projects included: PLC based pump station control system, PLC based furnace dryer control system including MCC, PLC program design and commissioning for a cement mixing plant, plant power factor correction and harmonics analysis, upgrade and modifications to mine 5 kV and 15 kV power distribution systems, electrical design of the power and control system for a 3000 ton per hour crushing plant, assigned to supervise the initial phase of the reopening of Heath Steele Mines.
